Unit of force

Unit of force :-

SI System: – Newton ( kg-m/s2 )

CGS System: – dyne ( g-cm/s2 )

Relations between Newton and dyne: –

1 N = 1kg-m/s2 = (1000g-100cm)/s2 = (105) (g-cm)/s2 = 105 dyne

Other units: –

Kilogram force ( kgf ) : – The force with which the earth attracts an object of one kilogram mass towards its center is called one kilogram force.

1 kgf = Weight of object of mass 1 kg = mg = 1kg × 9.8ms2 = 9.8 kg-m/s2 = 9.8 N

1 kg of force ≈ 10 newtons

Dimensional formula of force: – [ M L T-2]
